Restaurant chain Applebee’s needed to stand out through the saturation of Moms, Dads and Grads offerings, and also wanted a fresh take on its Veteran’s Day $5 bonus card. We provided options that explored a minimalist design as well as a vibrant look while integrating mandatory elements. It’s a great example of how we can refresh without a full departure as well as illustrate an out of the box aesthetic to set you apart from the competition.
Philz Coffee, the Bay Area-based company serving up “cups of love” wanted consumers to know how to brew the perfect cup when they received their online purchases of coffee beans. We were tasked to design a brew guide that was included in the packaging.
Through a collaboration with the client, we integrated all mandated brand elements while also concepting and designing a pocket-sized guide that fit a lot of instructions for a variety of brews in a way that kept the look fresh and clean and easy to follow. With the success of the brew guide, we were then assigned signage that we executed to a variety of specs, using various assets, for their store openings nationwide.
Appealing to the healthy-but-convenient sector, dietary shake company Muniq (now known as Supergut) was expanding its product offering and needed to increase customer engagement. Through a seamless integration with Muniq’s marketing team, we produced a food photo shoot around ingredients, executing art direction, photography, pre and post production, and food styling. We also collaborated to expand their website content, injecting new ideas while staying on brand.
San Francisco’s Vietnamese sandwich shop Bun Mee tasked us to brand their catering services as well as create in-store signage and collateral for their grand reopening following their temporary closure due to the pandemic. We positioned the brand to appeal to eaters of all ilks, including food adventurers, couch “travelers,” and the simply curious. For Bun Mee, it was all about creating experiences that were memorable, accommodating and happy. We also art directed a photo shoot that delivered mouth watering images, and dialed up the playfulness of the existing brand to inspire killer cravings.
Organic Chef Catering (OCC) sought Citizen Best’s services for brand strategy, brand identity and website design. With a niche audience of photo studios as well Bay Area workplaces and high-earning professionals and affluent families, we needed to ensure a premium look that highlighted sustainable services, cultural inclusivity, and creativity.
Given the pandemic, OCC was also transitioning to more b2c meal delivery services to households. We created a new brand positioning and carried it through to the brand identity, color palette, graphic elements, iconography, and photography. We then designed and developed their website as well as additional collateral (bags, notecards, business cards). In the end, OCC could own a unique niche in the catering world, centered around creativity, food as art, and thoughtfulness.
